TEF Canada speaking practice
TEF Canada speaking has two tasks with a document on screen: Section A (ask for information) and Section B (present and convince a friend). Practice with the same structure here — sample prompt below, then live AI examiner sessions in the app.
TEF speaking format
- Section A
- ~5 minutes · formal · ask questions about an ad or notice
- Section B
- ~10 minutes · informal · present the document and convince a friend
- Document
- Always on screen — like the real TEF oral
- Scoring
- Module scored /450 · IRCC maps to NCLC bands
Speaking tips that move the needle
- Section A: prepare question frames (combien, où, quels documents, y a-t-il…) before you speak.
- Section B: summarize the ad in your own words first, then argue — don’t just read the poster.
- Keep a friendly register in B; formal register in A. Examiners notice the switch.
- Practice with a timer. Silence and filler words cost more than a small grammar slip.

TEF speaking FAQ
- Do I need a microphone?
- Yes for live AI sessions in the app. You can still use this page’s sample document to practice offline with a partner or voice notes.
- Section A vs Section B — which should I practice first?
- Start with A if you struggle to ask precise questions. Practice B heavily if persuasion and informal register are weak — B carries more of the speaking module score.
